Day 144 Bible Readings - Psalm 139:17-18 (NLT)

Ezekiel 6-11, Psalm 139

Psalm 139:17-18 (NLT)

“How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!”

In Psalms 139:17–18, David, the writer of this psalm, recognizes that the Lord thinks about him continually. David called the Lord’s thoughts “precious,” and one Bible commentary I read noted that the Hebrew word for “precious” suggests something rare and valuable, like treasures or jewels.

David also acknowledged that Father-God’s thoughts about His people are infinite in nature and beyond human comprehension. He compares the Lord’s thoughts about His people to grains of sand, which cannot be counted. David then tells us that when he wakes up, he still feels Father-God’s presence with him.

These verses stood out to me because they remind me that the Lord loves me deeply and thinks about me continually. Father-God knows everything that is going on in my life, my thoughts, and my plans. Nothing in my life is hidden from the Lord.

After I was born again and started attending a full-gospel, Spirit-filled church, I began learning more about the covenant relationship the Lord has with people who believe in Him. I knew about the covenant relationship the Lord had with His people, but I did not know much about it, and it was not emphasized in my previous places of worship.

But now that I understand this concept more deeply, I realize that the Lord loves me because He created me. When I had this realization, I began waking up feeling the presence of Father-God. I was waking up like David in these verses, realizing that the Lord was still with me.

Cultivating a personal relationship with Father-God and the Holy Spirit has deepened my covenant relationship with Him. Sometimes I even wake up with a Christian song in my head. It has been one of the greatest joys of my life these past six months to know that the Lord loves me and that, as David wrote in these verses, the Lord thinks about me continually.

If these verses resonate with you—if you feel drawn to place your faith in Jesus Christ, the One who thinks about you continually—this may be your moment. Open your heart to Him. Speak to Him in prayer. Tell Him you trust Him and desire to walk with Him. He is faithful, and He will meet you exactly where you are.

Heavenly Father, I give You my life. Please forgive me for all my sins and wash me clean through the blood of Jesus. I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead, and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I receive Your forgiveness and the gift of salvation. Thank You, Lord—I am saved, I am forgiven, I am clean, and I am made new in Jesus’ name. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer, welcome to the family of Father-God! I encourage you to find and join a Holy Spirit–filled, full-Gospel, Bible-based church where you can grow in your faith and experience the Lord’s love, signs, wonders, and miracles in your life.
