Isaiah 60-62, Ephesians 4: 1-16, Psalm 147: 12-20
Isaiah 61: 1-4 (ESV)
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has
anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the
brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the
prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor, and
the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those
who mourn in Zion—to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil
of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint
spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the
Lord, that he may be glorified.”
In verses 1 through 4 from Isaiah 61, the prophet Isaiah
gives us another prophecy of the mission of Jesus Christ. When I read these
verses, I thought of what the disciples of John the Baptist asked Jesus in Luke
7: 20, “And when the men had come to him, they said, “John the Baptist has sent
us to you, saying, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for
another?” Jesus told them in Luke 7: 22, “Go and tell John what you have seen
and heard: the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed,
and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good news preached to
them.”
Jesus’ answer to the disciples of John the Baptist mirrored what
Isaiah prophesied that the coming Messiah would bring to the world. It would
not be until the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, that we would see the
fulfillment of the rest of these verses. Christ died for our sins so we could be
transformed by our faith in him, and have beauty instead of ashes, joy instead
of mourning, and praise and worship instead of despair. That through our faith
in Jesus Christ, we will have strength and righteousness, and our lives will glorify
Father-God.
If you found encouragement in my reflections on these Bible
verses, and you want to have the promises that Isaiah prophesied about in the Old
Testament that were fulfilled through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ—then
I invite you to pray the following prayer aloud:
Heavenly Father, I want to give you my Life. Forgive me of
all of my sins. Wash me in your blood. I believe in my heart You raised Jesus
from the dead. I confess with my mouth Jesus is my Lord and Savior. Right now,
I receive forgiveness by the blood of Jesus. I am saved, I am forgiven, I am
clean, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
If you prayed this prayer, welcome to the family of
Father-God! Do yourself a favor and find and join a Holy Spirit filled, full
Gospel, Bible-based church where you can hear the words of Father-God preached
and experience signs, wonders, and miracles in your life.
