2 Samuel 15: 13-37, 2 Samuel 16: 1-14, Acts 6, Act 7: 1-19, Psalm 91: 1-8
Acts 6: 2-4 (ESV)
“And the twelve summoned the full number of the disciples
and said, “It is not right that we should give up preaching the word of God to
serve tables. Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good
repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this duty. But
we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”
In verses 2 through 4 from Acts 6, we read about the
disciples settled the problem of caring for others in the early church after
the resurrection of Jesus Christ. These verses tell us that we each have a role
to play in the body of Christ. Some are like the disciples who are meant to
preach, lead prayer, and ministering the words of Christ. Others are meant to
serve and care for the needy of the church. Father-God has a plan for each
believer’s life that will help to serve his plan for the world. But like the early disciples of Christ, all
believers need to make sure they are praying and listening to the words of Christ
and are full of the Holy Spirit. Whatever the role and gifts Father-God has given
to us, we still need to make sure that are filled with the Holy Spirit who will
guide us and give us the power to fulfill the plan Father-God has mapped out
for our lives.
If you enjoyed reading my thoughts about these Bible verses,
find yourself a good, Holy Spirit filled, Bible-based church where you can use the
gifts and talents Father-God gave you to fulfill his plan for your life and the
world.
