Acts 9-10, Psalm 123
Acts 9:17-18 (NLT)
“So Ananias went and found Saul. He laid his hands on him and said, ‘Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road, has sent me so that you might regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit.’ Instantly something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he got up and was baptized.”
In Acts 9:17–18, Ananias obeyed the Lord and went to find Saul of Tarsus, even though Ananias had heard that Saul was persecuting believers in Jesus. Ananias even addressed Saul as “Brother Saul” and told him that the Lord had sent him so Saul could regain his sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Ananias laid his hands on Saul, and Saul regained his sight and was baptized.
What struck me about these verses is how Ananias overcame his fear and hesitation and went to see Saul. Ananias even went out of his way to address Saul as “Brother Saul,” which one Bible commentary said signified acceptance into the Christian community. Ananias trusted Father-God's word even though he knew Saul had persecuted Christians. Another Bible commentary noted that it took great courage for Ananias to overcome his fear and suspicion and go find Saul.
I don't know if I have enough faith and trust in the Lord to go into a risky situation the way Ananias did with Saul. Ananias was told to lay hands on someone he had known as an enemy of Jesus and His followers. I don't know if I have Ananias's graciousness to address an enemy of the Lord as “Brother Saul.” But I pray that the Holy Spirit will increase my faith and trust in Father-God so that if I am ever asked to do something that would naturally make me fearful, I will have the obedience and faith of Ananias. Ananias demonstrates for believers what it means to trust and obey the Lord even in the face of fear.
If these verses resonate with you—if you feel drawn to place your faith in Jesus Christ, the One who calls us to trust and follow Him even when we are afraid—this may be your moment. Open your heart to Him. Speak to Him in prayer. Tell Him you trust Him and desire to walk with Him. He is faithful, and He will meet you exactly where you are.
Heavenly Father, I give You my life. Please forgive me for all my sins and wash me clean through the blood of Jesus. I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead, and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I receive Your forgiveness and the gift of salvation. Thank You, Lord—I am saved, I am forgiven, I am clean, and I am made new in Jesus' name. Amen.
If you prayed this prayer, welcome to the family of Father-God! I encourage you to find and join a Holy Spirit–filled, full-Gospel, Bible-based church where you can grow in your faith and experience the Lord's love, signs, wonders, and miracles in your life.
S. Brenda Elfgirl - I was told I am an elf in a parallel life, and I live in the Arizona desert exploring what this means. I've had this blog for a while and I write about the things that interest me. My spiritual teacher told me that my journey in life is about balancing "the perfect oneness of a sweetness heart and the effulgent soul". My inner and outer lives are like parallel lines that will one day meet, but only when there is a new way of thinking. Read on as I try to find the balance.

Day 282 Bible Readings for October 11 - Acts 8:30-31 (NLT)
Acts 7-8, Psalm 122
Acts 8:30-31 (NLT)
“Philip ran over and heard the man reading from the prophet Isaiah. Philip asked, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ The man replied, ‘How can I, unless someone instructs me?’ And he urged Philip to come up into the carriage and sit with him.”
In Acts 8:30–31, Philip, one of the seven men appointed to serve the Jerusalem church, encountered an Ethiopian court official who was returning from Jerusalem. After Stephen's death, Philip had gone to Samaria to preach. Later, the Holy Spirit told him to approach the chariot of the Ethiopian official. Philip heard the man reading aloud from the prophet Isaiah and asked whether he understood what he was reading. The man replied that he could not understand unless someone guided him. The Ethiopian court official then invited Philip to sit with him in the chariot.
What I liked about these verses is that they reminded me that I didn't really understand the Scriptures until I joined a Pentecostal, Holy Spirit-filled church. The pastors at my new church explained the role of the Holy Spirit in a believer's life and how to ask Him for guidance in my life. The pastors wanted to minister as the apostles did when the early church was being formed. My pastors teach about signs and wonders and pray for miraculous healings. I have witnessed what I believe were supernatural healings, including people whose hearing was restored. I've also heard testimonies of debts being mysteriously cleared overnight and of various health conditions being healed, sometimes accompanied by before-and-after medical images.
The preaching I received at this church made me feel like the Ethiopian court official in these verses. I felt like I didn't really understand the Bible until I heard my new pastors explain in depth what it meant to be in a covenant relationship with the Lord. Their preaching has made such a difference in my life and has inspired me to read the Bible daily so I can increase my understanding of the Lord, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. I feel the love of Father-God daily in my life in a way I never felt before, and I praise the Holy Spirit for leading me to a Holy Spirit-filled church.
If these verses resonate with you—if you feel drawn to place your faith in Jesus Christ, the One whom the Scriptures reveal—this may be your moment. Open your heart to Him. Speak to Him in prayer. Day 281 Bible Readings for October 10 - Acts 5:3-4 (NLT)
Acts 5-6, Psalm 121
Acts 5:3-4 (NLT)
“Then Peter said, ‘Ananias, why have you let Satan fill your heart? You lied to the Holy Spirit, and you kept some of the money for yourself. The property was yours to sell or not sell, as you wished. And after selling it, the money was also yours to give away. How could you do a thing like this? You weren’t lying to us but to God!’”
In Acts 5:3–4, Peter confronts Ananias about his gift. Ananias and his wife Sapphira sold a property and brought part of the money to the apostles, presenting it as though it were the full amount. Peter, through what I understand as a word of knowledge, had supernatural knowledge that Ananias had not told the truth. Peter told Ananias that he had lied not only to the Holy Spirit but also to Father-God.
One Bible commentary I read noted that Ananias wanted public praise for his generosity. Ananias's sin was not in withholding the money but in presenting his gift as though he and his wife had given the full amount. His deception may also have been motivated by greed, but his greater sin was hypocrisy and pride because he wanted everyone to think he was spiritual. Another Bible commentary noted that Ananias, through his lies, threatened the truth and unity of the early church.
I've often read and heard these verses, but I never considered the cost of Ananias's lie to the early church or that he was lying not only to the Holy Spirit but also to Father-God. If Peter had not confronted Ananias about his gift, his deception might have remained hidden. Through his pride, hypocrisy, and falsehood, Ananias had allowed Satan to influence his actions and threaten the integrity of the early church.
I pray daily for the Holy Spirit to guide me, especially when it comes to pride and wanting people to think well of me. I ask the Holy Spirit to help me discern whether I am doing something just to look good in public or because the Lord wants me to do something that will serve His purposes for my life and the world. I don't want to do anything that the Lord doesn't want me to do.
If these verses resonate with you—if you feel drawn to place your faith in Jesus Christ, the One who gives us the Holy Spirit to guide us away from sin and into truth—this may be your moment. Open your heart to Him. Speak to Him in prayer. Tell Him you trust Him and desire to walk with Him. He is faithful, and He will meet you exactly where you are.

Day 280 Bible Readings for October 9 - Acts 4:13-14 (NLT)
Acts 3-4, Psalm 120
Acts 4:13-14 (NLT)
“The members of the council were amazed when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, for they could see that they were ordinary men with no special training in the Scriptures. They also recognized them as men who had been with Jesus. But since they could see the man who had been healed standing right there among them, there was nothing the council could say.”
In Acts 4:13–14, the members of the council were surprised by how boldly Peter and John spoke about Jesus. They knew the two men had no formal religious training. What the council members didn't understand was that Jesus had opened the minds of Peter and John to understand the Scriptures and that they were also filled with the Holy Spirit. But the rulers couldn't deny that a miracle had been performed for a man who had been lame from birth and could now walk. They wanted to deny that the disciples of Jesus had performed a miracle through His power, but they couldn't because the healed man was standing right there with them.
These verses illustrate for believers the transforming power of Jesus Christ. First, Christ had opened the minds of the disciples to understand the Scriptures. Secondly, Peter and John were filled with the Holy Spirit, who gave them boldness to preach about the resurrection of Jesus Christ. One Bible commentary I read noted that these verses demonstrate the transforming effect of Christ on His disciples and the power of the Holy Spirit in giving Peter and John boldness.
What I liked about these verses is that we see the fruits of the Lord's power to transform the lives of those who believe in Him. Peter and John's understanding of the Scriptures had increased, and the Holy Spirit filled them with boldness to preach. I pray that the Holy Spirit will increase my understanding of Scripture and fill me with boldness to do the things that the Lord has planned for my life.
If these verses resonate with you—if you feel drawn to place your faith in Jesus Christ, the One who gives us the Holy Spirit to help us accomplish His will—this may be your moment. Open your heart to Him. Speak to Him in prayer. Tell Him you trust Him and desire to walk with Him. He is faithful, and He will meet you exactly where you are.
