Day 201 Bible Readings – Romans 6: 5-6 (ESV)

Hosea 1 & 2, Romans 6: 1-14, Psalm 113

Romans 6: 5-6 (ESV)

“For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.”

In verses 5 and 6 from Romans 6, Paul tells us to consider what it means to have faith in Jesus Christ. If we are united with Jesus Christ, then we also experience his death and resurrection not from physical life, but from the life of sin. Our old self was crucified like Christ to wipe out our sins of the past, present, and future. Since our self no longer exists, we are no longer a slave to sin. Water baptism often is a symbol of our union with Christ in his death and resurrection. In a water baptism, going under water symbolizes death and coming back up is our resurrection. A water baptism is also a public declaration of our faith and commitment to the new life we have in Jesus Christ. Knowing we are free from sin allows us to choose a life that reflects our new commitment to actions that please God.

When we are first saved, we knew without a doubt it that we became a new person after we accepted Christ as our savior. But sometimes after a few years we may need to remind ourselves daily, we became new people because of our faith. We may also need to reexamine our lives and make new choices that again reflect that we became new people in Christ. We are not the same person we were before we got saved, and we are not the same person now. We are not sinners because that “old self” was crucified when we first accepted Christ in our lives, but we are instead believers who need to revive our faith in Jesus Christ.

If you enjoyed reading my thoughts on these Bible verses and you want to revive your faith in Jesus Christ, please pray this prayer out loud:

Heavenly Father, I want to give you my Life. Forgive me of all of my sins. Wash me in your blood. I believe in my heart You raised Jesus from the dead. I confess with my mouth Jesus is my Lord and Savior. Right now, I receive forgiveness by the blood of Jesus. I am saved, I am forgiven, I am clean in Jesus’ name, Amen.

If you prayed that prayer, welcome back to the family of Father-God! Do yourself a favor and find and join a Holy Spirit filled, full Gospel, Bible-based church where you can hear the words of Father-God preached and experience signs, wonders, and miracles in your life.
