Acts 25-26, Psalm 131
Acts 26:30-32 (NLT)
“Then the king, the governor, Bernice, and all the others stood and left. As they went out, they talked it over and agreed, ‘This man hasn’t done anything to deserve death or imprisonment.’ And Agrippa said to Festus, ‘He could have been set free if he hadn’t appealed to Caesar.’”
In Acts 26:30–32, King Agrippa, Bernice, and Festus discussed Paul's hearing and his defense of his faith and testimony. They agreed that they found no grounds for the charges against Paul and no offense worthy of imprisonment or death. But since Paul had exercised his right as a Roman citizen to plead his case before Caesar, they needed to send him to Rome.
One Bible commentary I read noted that in Acts 23:11, the Lord said to Paul, “Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.” The commentary also noted that Paul invoked his right as a Roman citizen because he was facing plots to kill him and a biased council, and this was a way to escape the danger. But Paul's appeal to appear before Caesar also fulfilled what the Lord had told him earlier about testifying in Rome. The Lord gave Paul a prophecy that would come true through a legal process, which shows that Father-God intended for Paul to testify in Rome. Another Bible commentary noted that earthly decisions made by humans can serve the Lord's sovereign purpose in fulfilling His plan for Paul to preach before kings (Acts 9:15).
Another Bible commentary I read noted that Paul might have been set free had he not asserted his rights as a Roman citizen. But I think Paul was obedient to the Lord's words and plan for his life. Paul also admitted in Romans 1:9–13 that he had a desire to visit the Christian community in Rome. I love that the plan and words of the Lord were being fulfilled through the opposition to Paul's preaching. If the Jewish leaders had not been so adamant about bringing Paul to trial, Paul might not have had this opportunity to go to Rome to testify. These verses tell me that the Lord's plan for my life can be fulfilled in ways that I cannot even imagine.
If these verses resonate with you—if you feel drawn to place your faith in Jesus Christ, the One who has a plan for the world and your life that will always come to pass—this may be your moment. Open your heart to Him. Speak to Him in prayer. Tell Him you trust Him and desire to walk with Him. He is faithful, and He will meet you exactly where you are.
Heavenly Father, I give You my life. Please forgive me for all my sins and wash me clean through the blood of Jesus. I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead, and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I receive Your forgiveness and the gift of salvation. Thank You, Lord—I am saved, I am forgiven, I am clean, and I am made new in Jesus' name. Amen.
If you prayed this prayer, welcome to the family of Father-God! I encourage you to find and join a Holy Spirit–filled, full-Gospel, Bible-based church where you can grow in your faith and experience the Lord's love, signs, wonders, and miracles in your life.
S. Brenda Elfgirl - I was told I am an elf in a parallel life, and I live in the Arizona desert exploring what this means. I've had this blog for a while and I write about the things that interest me. My spiritual teacher told me that my journey in life is about balancing "the perfect oneness of a sweetness heart and the effulgent soul". My inner and outer lives are like parallel lines that will one day meet, but only when there is a new way of thinking. Read on as I try to find the balance.
Thank you for viewing / reading my blog posts! I appreciate it!
