Psalm 119: 36-37 (ESV)
“Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish
gain! Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things; and give me life in your
ways.”
In Psalm 119, the Psalmist tells us we need to be careful of
covetousness and prayed to Father-God to turn his mind towards his testimonies instead.
There are many examples of covetousness in the Old Testament, where people have
wanted things for their selfish gains. The temptation of materialism, greed,
and worldly desire is great, and believers need to make sure they are always
aligned with Father-God’s will. The Psalmist also asks the Lord to turn his
eyes from looking at things that are worthless. Worthless things can refer to
anything that distracts you from Father-God such as idols. Bur worthless can
also refer to things that do no good, do not last, or have nothing to do with
Jesus. The Psalmist also warns us to be careful of what we allow our eyes to
see, since what we see can influence our thoughts and actions. But more
importantly, the Psalmist tells us we need to seek Father-God’s help in maintaining
our spiritual focus and vitality. I love that these verses are reminders that we
need not do anything on our own, and that we can always pray to Father-God for
his help.
If you enjoyed reading my thoughts on these Bible verses and
you want to have Father-God’s help in whatever you do
because of your faith in Jesus Christ, please pray this prayer out loud:
Heavenly Father, I want to give you my Life. Forgive me of
all of my sins. Wash me in your blood. I believe in my heart You raised Jesus
from the dead. I confess with my mouth Jesus is my Lord and Savior. Right now,
I receive forgiveness by the blood of Jesus. I am saved, I am forgiven, I am
clean, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
If you prayed that prayer, welcome to the family of
Father-God! Do yourself a favor and find and join a Holy Spirit filled, full
Gospel, Bible-based church where you can hear the words of Father-God preached
and experience signs, wonders, and miracles in your life.
