Day 296 Bible Readings for October 25 - Romans 8:26-27 (NLT)

Romans 7-8, Psalm 136

Romans 8:26-27 (NLT)

“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.”

In Romans 8:26–27, Paul tells the church in Rome that the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness and times of trial. The Holy Spirit knows our needs better than we do and intercedes with Father-God on our behalf. Paul writes that the Holy Spirit intercedes for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words, but which the Lord understands and hears. Paul emphasizes that the Holy Spirit pleads for believers in accordance with the Lord's will.

When I read these verses, I realized that I had forgotten that the Holy Spirit has the role of a personal intercessor for me when I am troubled and do not know what to pray for or how to pray to the Lord for help. One Bible commentary I read noted that the Holy Spirit is actively working even when we are unaware of it. The Holy Spirit is constantly interceding for us, aligning our prayers with the Lord's will, and bringing our needs before Father-God. Another Bible commentary I read noted that the Holy Spirit does not stand at a distance but comes alongside us and gives us divine strength.

When I pray in tongues, even though I cannot understand what I am praying for because I am praying in a heavenly, divine language, I trust the Holy Spirit to intercede for me according to the Lord's will. I also feel that the Holy Spirit reveals to me the Lord's plan for my life through the guidance He provides daily. I know that when I follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit, even though sometimes it makes no sense in the natural world, it has worked out in my favor, with a better result than if I had followed the advice of the world's experts or my own reasoning.

If these verses resonate with you—if you feel drawn to place your faith in Jesus Christ, the One who gave us the Holy Spirit as a Helper and intercessor in our lives—this may be your moment. Open your heart to Him. Speak to Him in prayer. Tell Him you trust Him and desire to walk with Him. He is faithful, and He will meet you exactly where you are.

Heavenly Father, I give You my life. Please forgive me for all my sins and wash me clean through the blood of Jesus. I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead, and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I receive Your forgiveness and the gift of salvation. Thank You, Lord—I am saved, I am forgiven, I am clean, and I am made new in Jesus' name. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer, welcome to the family of Father-God! I encourage you to find and join a Holy Spirit–filled, full-Gospel, Bible-based church where you can grow in your faith and experience the Lord's love, signs, wonders, and miracles in your life.
