Job 29-31, Psalm 38
Job 31:35-37 (NLT)
“If only someone would listen to me! Look, I will sign my name to my defense. Let the Almighty answer me. Let my accuser write out the charges against me. I would face the accusation proudly. I would wear it like a crown. For I would tell him exactly what I have done. I would come before him like a prince.”
In Job 31:35–37, Job tells his friends that he wants someone who will truly listen to his case. Job was so confident in his integrity that he was willing to take a solemn oath to proclaim his innocence. He again asks for an audience with the Lord and says he would wear his innocence like a crown and give an account of his actions.
What I love about these verses is Job's confidence in the life he lived before the Lord. I don't know how many people could do what Job wanted to do and stand before the Lord with such confidence, ready to give an account of their lives.
When I read these verses, I thought of Paul, who said in 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful." Paul knew that he had remained faithful to the calling the Lord had given him and had never turned back from proclaiming the gospel of Christ. In a similar way, Job was confident that he had lived with integrity before God. Their examples inspire me to live a life of faithful obedience so that, when I one day stand before the Lord, I can also give an honest account of my life.

Heavenly Father, I give You my life. Please forgive me for all my sins and wash me clean through the blood of Jesus. I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead, and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I receive Your forgiveness and the gift of salvation. Thank You, Lord—I am saved, I am forgiven, I am clean, and I am made new in Jesus’ name. Amen.
