Day 201 Bible Readings - Song of Solomon 3:3-4 (NLT)

Song of Solomon 1-4, Psalm 46

Song of Solomon 3:3-4 (NLT)

“The watchmen stopped me as they made their rounds, and I asked, ‘Have you seen the one I love?’ Then scarcely had I left them when I found my love. I caught and held him tightly, then I brought him to my mother’s house, into my mother’s bed, where I had been conceived.”

In the Song of Solomon, Solomon wrote about the Lord's gift of love within the covenant of marriage. Many Bible scholars and commentators have also applied these verses to the covenant relationship between Jesus Christ and His people.

In Song of Solomon 3:3–4, the maiden searches for her beloved, finds him, and experiences great joy. She holds him tightly and vows never to let him go. She then brings him to her mother's house and into the room where she was conceived, symbolizing an intimate and deeply personal place.

One Bible commentary I read noted that these verses illustrate how believers should seek Christ when they desire a deep and personal covenant relationship with Him. That search requires intentionality and perseverance. When we find the Lord, we experience the joy, peace, and security that come from belonging to Him.

Once we find Christ, we should hold tightly to Him, especially during times of trial. Another Bible commentator noted that Christ does not force Himself upon anyone. He allows us the freedom to seek Him, recognize His value, and respond to His invitation. The imagery of the birth chamber can also remind us of the new birth and the spiritual transformation that comes through a relationship with Jesus Christ.

These verses remind me of the joy I experienced when I finally had a personal encounter with Jesus Christ after having known about Him for most of my life. Through that encounter, I experienced the new birth Jesus described in John 3:3. I hold tightly to the love I now know the Lord has always had for me, and I wake up each morning thanking Father-God for His unfailing love.

If these verses resonate with you—if you feel drawn to place your faith in Jesus Christ, the One who also desires a covenant relationship with every believer—this may be your moment. Open your heart to Him. Speak to Him in prayer. Tell Him you trust Him and desire to walk with Him. He is faithful, and He will meet you exactly where you are.

Heavenly Father, I give You my life. Please forgive me for all my sins and wash me clean through the blood of Jesus. I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead, and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I receive Your forgiveness and the gift of salvation. Thank You, Lord—I am saved, I am forgiven, I am clean, and I am made new in Jesus’ name. Amen.

If you prayed this prayer, welcome to the family of Father-God! I encourage you to find and join a Holy Spirit–filled, full-Gospel, Bible-based church where you can grow in your faith and experience the Lord’s love, signs, wonders, and miracles in your life.
