Job 38-39, Psalm 41
Job 38:1-3 (NLT)
“Then the Lord answered Job from the whirlwind: ‘Who is this that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words? Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them.”
In Job 38:1–3, the Lord speaks to Job directly out of a whirlwind and asks who has been questioning Him without knowledge of His ways. Father-God then tells Job to prepare himself because He is about to ask Job a series of questions.
I love this introduction to the Lord. We read about Father-God in Job 1, but He has remained silent throughout most of the story. The Lord speaking out of a whirlwind reminded me of Moses encountering Him in the burning bush. Throughout the book, Job kept asking the Lord to explain why he was suffering, and now Father-God appears to him in the form of a whirlwind.
I also love that the Lord personally engaged with Job rather than his friends or Elihu. Father-God answered Job's prayers, and Job was brought into close fellowship with Him. I can only imagine what Job was thinking. I don't believe he ever expected the Lord to appear and begin a conversation with him. Job was right—Father-God had heard everything he said and knew everything he was going through. Now the Lord had questions of His own in response to what Job had spoken. These verses remind me that the Lord truly knows everything happening in the lives of believers, and we should always be ready to listen when He chooses to speak to us.

I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead, and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I receive Your forgiveness and the gift of salvation. Thank You, Lord—I am saved, I am forgiven, I am clean, and I am made new in Jesus’ name. Amen.
