Ezra 7-10, Psalm 59
Ezra 7:8-10 (NLT)
“Ezra arrived in Jerusalem in August of that year. He had arranged to leave Babylon on April 8, the first day of the new year, and he arrived at Jerusalem on August 4, for the gracious hand of his God was on him. This was because Ezra had determined to study and obey the Law of the Lord and to teach those decrees and regulations to the people of Israel.”
In Ezra 7:8–10, Ezra, a scribe and priest, journeyed from Babylon to Jerusalem with a later group of Jewish exiles. He was well versed in the Law of Moses and played a key role in rebuilding the spiritual life of the Lord's people. The journey from Babylon to Jerusalem took four months, and Ezra arrived safely because the gracious hand of the Lord was upon him. He was also committed to studying and obeying the Law of the Lord and to teaching the statutes and ordinances to those returning from exile.
These verses remind me that rebuilding a city, church, or temple also requires the spiritual renewal of the people. The Jews returning from exile needed more than the restoration of the temple—they also needed the restoration of their relationship with the Lord. Because Ezra was dedicated to studying and obeying the Law of the Lord, he was the right person to lead the spiritual renewal of the people.
Reading the book of Ezra has taught me how important it is to gather with other believers to worship the Lord. Ezra also taught me the importance of studying Father-God's Word daily as part of renewing my faith. His example reminds me that I should not only study God's Word but also live it out so I can continue to grow in my relationship with Father-God.

Thank You, Lord—I am saved, I am forgiven, I am clean, and I am made new in Jesus’ name. Amen.
