2 Chronicles 25-27, Psalm 77
2 Chronicles 26:16 (NLT)
“But when he had become powerful, he also became proud, which led to his downfall. He sinned against the Lord his God by entering the sanctuary of the Lord’s Temple and personally burning incense on the incense altar.”
In 2 Chronicles 26:16, we read about the fall of King Uzziah. Uzziah reigned as king of Judah for fifty-two years. During the days of the prophet Zechariah, Uzziah followed the prophet's guidance and sought the Lord, which led to success. Uzziah's success led him to become very powerful, but he also became proud. The king entered the Lord's Temple to personally burn incense to Father-God. The Lord had assigned this work to the Temple priests, the descendants of Aaron, so it was a sin for Uzziah to perform this duty. After Azariah the high priest confronted Uzziah about his sin, the king became angry, and leprosy broke out on his forehead. Afterwards, Uzziah lived in isolation until his death, while his son Jotham governed the people of the land.
This verse reminds believers that pride can sometimes lead us to do things that are not right. Uzziah knew that the Lord had authorized the Temple priests to enter the sanctuary and minister to Him. Since burning incense was a priestly act of worship, Uzziah disregarded Father-God's established order and acted unfaithfully. When confronted, Uzziah responded with anger rather than repentance and was punished by the Lord. Because the Lord had blessed Uzziah throughout his reign, his pride led him to believe that he was entitled to perform work the Lord had reserved for the Temple priests.
This verse reminds me that success can become a spiritual test. When Father-God blesses the work I do and I become more confident in my abilities, I need to guard my heart against pride. The blessings and success the Lord gives me should make me more grateful and dependent upon Him, not convince me that I no longer need His guidance. Just because the Lord has blessed me in one area doesn't give me authority in every area.

Thank You, Lord—I am saved, I am forgiven, I am clean, and I am made new in Jesus’ name. Amen.
