2 Chronicles 5-8, Psalm 72
2 Chronicles 6:32-33 (NLT)
“In the future, foreigners who do not belong to your people Israel will hear of you. They will come from distant lands when they hear of your great name and your strong hand and your powerful arm. And when they pray toward this Temple, then hear from heaven where you live, and grant what they ask of you. In this way, all the people of the earth will come to know and fear you, just as your own people Israel do. They, too, will know that this Temple I have built honors your name.”
When the Temple was dedicated, Solomon prayed to the Lord to hear the prayers of foreigners, or non-Israelites, who might come and pray toward the Temple in 2 Chronicles 6:32–33. One Bible commentary I read noted that Solomon recognized the universal reach and reputation of the God of Israel, especially because Jerusalem was at the crossroads of many ancient civilizations. Solomon was also acknowledging Father-God's promise to Abraham when the Lord said to him, "All the families on earth will be blessed through you" (Genesis 12:3).
When I read these verses, I was reminded of what was written in Isaiah 56:7: "I will accept their burnt offerings and sacrifices, because my Temple will be called a house of prayer for all nations." Solomon's prayer for the non-Israelites shows that the Lord was faithful to the promise He made to Abraham and points forward to the worldwide mission ultimately fulfilled through Jesus Christ. Jesus said in John 2:19, "'All right,' Jesus replied. 'Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.'" John explains that Jesus was speaking about the temple of His body.
Then, in Acts 10:34–36, Peter said to Cornelius, a centurion, "I now truly understand that God does not show favoritism, but welcomes those from every nation who fear Him and do what is right. He has sent this message to the people of Israel, proclaiming the gospel of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all."
Solomon's prayer for foreigners reminds me that the Lord's plan of salvation extends to all nations through His Son, Jesus Christ, and that His plan can be traced back to the covenant He made with Abraham. The Lord is merciful and welcomes everyone who comes to Him in faith.
If these verses resonate with you—if you feel drawn to place your faith in Jesus Christ, the One whose invitation of salvation extends to all nations—this may be your moment. Open your heart to Him. Speak to Him in prayer. Tell Him you trust Him and desire to walk with Him. He is faithful, and He will meet you exactly where you are.
Heavenly Father, I give You my life. Please forgive me for all my sins and wash me clean through the blood of Jesus. I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead, and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I receive Your forgiveness and the gift of salvation. Thank You, Lord—I am saved, I am forgiven, I am clean, and I am made new in Jesus’ name. Amen.
If you prayed this prayer, welcome to the family of Father-God! I encourage you to find and join a Holy Spirit–filled, full-Gospel, Bible-based church where you can grow in your faith and experience the Lord’s love, signs, wonders, and miracles in your life.
S. Brenda Elfgirl - I was told I am an elf in a parallel life, and I live in the Arizona desert exploring what this means. I've had this blog for a while and I write about the things that interest me. My spiritual teacher told me that my journey in life is about balancing "the perfect oneness of a sweetness heart and the effulgent soul". My inner and outer lives are like parallel lines that will one day meet, but only when there is a new way of thinking. Read on as I try to find the balance.
Thank you for viewing / reading my blog posts! I appreciate it!
