Nehemiah 12-13, Psalm 64
Nehemiah 13:10-12 (NLT)
“I also discovered that the Levites had not been given their prescribed portions of food, so they and the singers who were to conduct the worship services had all returned to work their fields. I immediately confronted the leaders and demanded, ‘Why has the Temple of God been neglected?’ Then I called all the Levites back again and restored them to their proper duties. And once more all the people of Judah began bringing their tithes of grain, new wine, and olive oil to the Temple storerooms.”
In Nehemiah 13:10–12, Nehemiah discovered that the Levites, who were set apart for temple service, were not receiving their provisions. As a result, the Levites and singers returned to their fields to work so they could sustain themselves and abandoned their temple duties. Nehemiah rebuked the officials for neglecting the temple. He brought the Levites back and restored them to their posts, and the people of Judah responded by bringing their tithes to the temple.
These verses remind me that Nehemiah's discovery and actions demonstrate the need to maintain spiritual renewal. The people had good intentions to restore worship in the temple in Jerusalem, but they needed continual discipline because they had begun to drift away from their commitments. Nehemiah's actions show me the need to remain vigilant in my spiritual life and to address problems promptly to prevent further decline.
Nehemiah also teaches me that personal revival can mean returning to the foundational practices of faith, such as tithing. When my heart is aligned with Father-God's commands, obedience to His Word becomes a tangible expression of my faith and trust in the Lord's provision and protection. I need to ask myself whether I am doing the things that maintain and renew my faith in the Lord every day. Am I reading the Bible daily? Am I taking time to pray and praise the Lord? Do I express my gratitude for the blessings and miracles the Lord has shown me? Renewing my faith in the Lord each day keeps me aware of His presence and His blessings in my life.

Heavenly Father, I give You my life. Please forgive me for all my sins and wash me clean through the blood of Jesus. I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead, and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I receive Your forgiveness and the gift of salvation. Thank You, Lord—I am saved, I am forgiven, I am clean, and I am made new in Jesus’ name. Amen.
