2 Chronicles 1-4, Psalm 71
2 Chronicles 1:9-10 (NLT)
“O Lord God, please continue to keep your promise to David my father, for you have made me king over a people as numerous as the dust of the earth! Give me the wisdom and knowledge to lead them properly, for who could possibly govern this great people of yours?”
In 2 Chronicles 1:9–10, King Solomon answered the Lord when He appeared to him and asked Solomon what he wanted. Solomon could have asked for almost anything, but his first concern was the responsibility of leading the people. King Solomon asked for wisdom to lead the people Father-God had entrusted to him.
Solomon's answer reminds believers of the importance of seeking wisdom above wealth or power. Spiritual discernment was Solomon's priority because he wanted to fulfill the responsibility given to him by the Lord and his father David. Solomon's request also acknowledged the Lord's role in his kingship. Solomon believed that Father-God was sovereign and the source of provision for his life and kingdom, and that he could not rely solely on his own abilities to govern and lead the people. Solomon's answer also encourages believers to trust the Lord in all circumstances and ask Him for wisdom and spiritual discernment.
These verses remind me that when Father-God gives me an assignment, I shouldn't rely only on my own knowledge and abilities. I need to ask Him for the wisdom and discernment necessary to faithfully accomplish what He has called me to do. Solomon didn't ask Father-God to do his job for him. He asked the Lord to give him the wisdom necessary to do his job well.
If these verses resonate with you—if you feel drawn to place your faith in Jesus Christ, the One who can give us wisdom to fulfill His plans for our lives—this may be your moment. Open your heart to Him. Speak to Him in prayer. Tell Him you trust Him and desire to walk with Him. He is faithful, and He will meet you exactly where you are.
Heavenly Father, I give You my life. Please forgive me for all my sins and wash me clean through the blood of Jesus. I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead, and I confess with my mouth that Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I receive Your forgiveness and the gift of salvation. Thank You, Lord—I am saved, I am forgiven, I am clean, and I am made new in Jesus’ name. Amen.
If you prayed this prayer, welcome to the family of Father-God! I encourage you to find and join a Holy Spirit–filled, full-Gospel, Bible-based church where you can grow in your faith and experience the Lord’s love, signs, wonders, and miracles in your life.
S. Brenda Elfgirl - I was told I am an elf in a parallel life, and I live in the Arizona desert exploring what this means. I've had this blog for a while and I write about the things that interest me. My spiritual teacher told me that my journey in life is about balancing "the perfect oneness of a sweetness heart and the effulgent soul". My inner and outer lives are like parallel lines that will one day meet, but only when there is a new way of thinking. Read on as I try to find the balance.
Thank you for viewing / reading my blog posts! I appreciate it!
